Then and now – our story

Spescom was founded in 1977 in the true spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation.

It has excelled in almost every industry segment in which it has operated - from its early beginnings in the electronics sector to its development of the first keypad pre-payment electricity meter in the world in the early ‘90s, and its subsequent entry into the ICT arena in 1995 where it has since been responsible for the introduction of the world’s first Digital Voice recorder, Voice over IP recorder and installed speaker verification system, as well as the first demonstration of hosted recording services.

In 2007, Spescom refined its focus, exiting its interest in the enterprise software sector with the sale of its US operation, Enterprise Informatics, to concentrate on exploiting the opportunities resulting from the global trend towards the convergence of voice, video and data communications. The result: an 80% increase in revenues.

In 2008, the company introduced Libra Mobile, the first unified solution for mobile and fixed-line telephony recording.

Today, Spescom’s widely acknowledged depth of technology skills, its carefully selected global partnerships with world leading vendors, and its considerable experience and expertise has seen it acquire dominance in the contact centre and broadcast media production arenas, and become a major supplier to Telkom, Neotel, Sentech and other network operators in Africa and across the globe. Our proprietary solutions are gaining marketshare with sales in over 60 countries, while our increased focus on solutions and service provision is strengthening revenue flows.
